About Us
Sherborne St John Boys Football Club, as we were then known, was formed in 1981 and our application to become a member of the Under 11 League of the Peter Houseman Basingstoke District Boys Sunday League was accepted on 8th July 1981. The Club played its first ever fixture against Portal Boys in September that year. A significant driving force behind the creation of the boys club was the secretary Donald Elsley Esq. and he also sought agreement from the committee of the Sherborne St John Football Club that the newly created boys club would be affiliated to the mens club. From the very beginning the Club's base was the Chute Recreation Ground, in Sherborne St John, and it was used on Saturday mornings for training and on Sunday afternoons for home fixtures. We are glad to have the use of the Chute to host our fixtures to this day as it offers not only a superb playing surface but also a modern pavilion and changing rooms. Nowadays, both the mens team and the junior teams play under the name of Sherborne St John Football Club, with the men playing in the Basingstoke and District League on Saturday afternoons and the juniors in the Peter Houseman Youth League on Sundays. As a club we strive to provide a friendly and structured environment in which the game of football can be enjoyed and are keen to promote the values of fair play and respect to those in our club. We have also set ourselves the target of attaining FA Charter Standard status (a best practice guide which stipulates the expected levels of coaching, administration and child protection for all clubs) within the shortest possible time frame. |
